Oread Stair Project Completed
The ONA (Oread Neighborhood Association) 12th and Mississippi Stairs Project (see below) was initially funded with CDBG funds for $4,100 in 2000. Funds were used for a topography study and initial design for the project. Interested neighborhood residents were involved with design concepts for the stairs. CDBG funds totaling $62,000 were allocated in 2001 and 2002 for the final Design and Engineering of the project, as well as subsequent construction of the new stairs. After construction was completed late last fall, approximately $3,000 remained of the allocation. NR staff is currently working with ONA residents and P & R staff to determine appropriate low-maintenance landscaping for the area. The $3,000 balance of CDBG funds will be used to purchase the plantings, which will be installed by P & R staff. Adjacent neighbors have assumed the responsibility for planting and watering flowers and are agreeable to continuing this plan.
