City of Lawrence
Dear Julie,
I spoke with Barry who asked that I contact you by Friday, February 6th in regards to a time frame for the restorational replacement of 933 Accessory Building. As I’ve earlier indicated, the carpenters that I have consulted with have all recommeded dismanteling and rebuilding the from the ground up. However, I got the impression from our last city commission meeting that the continued preference would be to restore the structure as it stands, ie not dismanteling but approaching it along the lines of Malcom’s suggestion. As such, I did contact Tom Costello, a local, well-respected carpenter who is familiar with Malcom’s work, who has agreed to consult with us in regards to the building. This is an attempt to see if we can put Malcom’s suggestions to work here. We will be meeting early in the week. Pease keep in mind this is a variable to the definitive approach to the project. Either approach will require warmer weather to allow for the pouring of new footers. Presuming we’re given the okay by the commission, I would see securing and/or renewing the restoration permit by the 20th of February.
Beginning Monday the 23rd of February and for the next two to five weeks, depending on the approach and on the weather, either dismantle, save, and sort what is reusable and/or build the interior temporary supports sufficient to allow the pouring of new footers. Weather permittning, I see this being done anytime between March 8th and March 26th. Once the footers are in place, the framing/reframing can begin in earnest hopefully by March 29th, 2004. From that point on, allowing for weather interruption and subcontractors, I believe we should be able to substantially complete the shell within six weeks. I’ll let you know how the meeting with Tom goes. In pursuing this please let me know soon--otherwise I will proceed with the bank loan. Thank you.
Sincerely,
