Lawrence Regional Technology Center (LRTC) Update   LRTC

Matt McCleary, President & CEO of LRTC, will provide the Commission with an overview of the Center’s focus, activities, and current client base.  Attached is information with details on these elements of the organization and the services provided.

 

Lawrence Police Department Traffic Unit – Briefing   Traffic Unit Memo

Sgt. Randy Roberts will brief the Commission on the activities and operations of the KDOT grant-funded traffic unit.

 

 Job Recruitment Activity

On Jan 28th, Jimmy Gibbs, Aquatics Supervisor; Lori Madaus, Aquatics Manager and Karen Reed, Personnel Recruiter, attended the part-time University of Kansas career fair where they talked to over 200 students and distributed some 150 applications and information on summer employment opportunities.  On Feb 4th, Jennifer Gray-O'Connor, MPA Student Intern, and Karen Reed attended KU's career fair where students were looking for full-time opportunities following their May graduation.  The team spent five hours on campus and talked with over 100 students, collecting many resumes from those expressing interest in potential future employment with the City of Lawrence.

 

Resource Fair an Opportunity for Outreach   Resource Fair

Three city services participated in the February 4th Resource Fair sponsored by the Transition Council of Douglas and Jefferson Counties.  Lawrence Transit System, Parks and Recreation Special Populations and Human Relations/Human Resources attended the Transition Council's Resource Fair for individuals with disabilities and their families at Free State High School.

 

Lawrence Transit System provided a booth where individuals, their families and professionals involved with Special Populations could receive information on the Fixed Route System and Paratransit service. Visitors to the booth were able to view an enlarged transit map, receive promotional items, route maps, Paratransit riding guides and applications. Karin Rexroad, Public Transit Administrator and Rachel Cornish, Transit Marketing Coordinator were in attendance to provide route planning and answer basic questions about both services.

 

A three year veteran of the event, Annette Deghand, Special Populations Supervisor and member of the Transition Council, promote programs and services offered by Parks and Recreation.  Parents, consumers, teachers and paraprofessionals were among the contacts she made. The evening yielded about a dozen new names to the Special Populations monthly newsletter mailing list plus renewed contacted with several current consumers and caregivers.

 

The Lawrence Human Relations Department/Commission staff was well-received by those in attendance. LHR staff provided information on employment, housing, and public accommodations, as well as giveaway items (pens, notepads, etc.) They visited with several attendees, as well as some of the other vendors, who were curious about the services the LHRD/LHRC provides in areas of employment and housing, and its mission.

 

Top 30 Water Users   Large Water Users

The attached list represents the top 30 water users in 2003.  As the rate study process gets underway, public meetings are incorporated into the schedule, and staff will be notifying these users and other interested parties of these meeting opportunities. (see attached)
