Core Mediation Training Course
Rehelio Samuel, HR/HR Director, indicates that the course developed by his department to train participants on mediation skills and scheduled for March 9th through 11th is full. With twenty-five registrations in place, the department is adding interested parties to its mailing list for future mediation training opportunities. Eleven of the twenty-five registrations for the training were online registrations via www.lawrencehumanrelations.org/mediationtraining.shtml.
On-Line Registration Cited in “Best Practices” Article
The January, 2004 edition of the Kansas Government Journal notes in the recurring “Best Practices” section that the ability for citizens to enroll in parks and recreation programs on line is part of Lawrence’s “e-Gov initiative to provide customer friendly and operating efficiencies to online city services”. Also noted in the article are plans by the department to “respond to the growing needs of a web-savvy public by conducting an online survey to see if any changes to the program will be needed”.

Meet the City of Lawrence” CD
A "Meet the City of Lawrence" CD has been created. Designed to provide a large volume of City information without requiring an Internet connection, the CD features the City Services Directory, an alphabetical listing of hundreds of entries. The CD format provides the flexibility to update the City Services Directory as new information becomes available. By producing the CDs (copying and printing) in house, small to medium quantities are produced at one time, avoiding an inventory of out-dated materials. The CD overcomes the challenges of traditional paper brochures by eliminating costly printing and provides the flexibility to instantly update information contained on the CD. Web interns Jules Hodge and Matt Bunyard completed the computer programming for the CD. Copies of the CD will be presented to the Commission on 2/24/04.
