Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: The City of Lawrence had a total annual taxable retail sales volume of $1,099,772,900 in 1999; and
WHEREAS: Lawrence High School marketing studies estimate that Lawrence, Kansas could increase its percentage of sales volume by 13% if residents spent their shopping dollars in Lawrence instead of surrounding areas; and.
WHEREAS: This research, completed by two DECA students, estimates that 25.4% of our city residents shop on an average yearly basis outside the city of Lawrence; and
WHEREAS: The research suggests that the economy of Lawrence could be increased by $24,000,000 on a yearly basis by applying the multiplicity factor; and
WHEREAS: The research estimates 23.8 jobs are lost yearly due to monies being spent by residents outside the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, David M. Dunfield, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, in cooperation with Lawrence High School Distributive Education Club of America, do hereby proclaim Saturday, February 28, to be
and encourage the citizens of Lawrence to participate within this event and observe and lend a hand in the occasion in an appropriate manner.
