MEMORANDUM

DATE:      February 26, 2004

TO:            Mike Wildgen

                  City Manager

From:        Alan D. Landis

                  Purchasing Specialist

Last August the City of Lawrence began working on a joint bid and cooperative purchasing agreement through Mid-America Council of Public Purchasing (MACPP) for 2004 vehicles.  There were twelve other government entities besides Lawrence working on the bid including Douglas County and entities in the Kansas City area belonging to MACPP.  This year the City of Overland Park headed the bidding process and the bids were approved by the Overland Park City Council on October 20, 2003.  Ten vendors bid on fifty different vehicles.

Utilities is requesting to buy one (1) compact pickup off of this bid.  Currently the Distribution Division is using a dump truck , the only vehicle available, for testing hydrants and lines.  The use of the compact pickup will be more fuel efficient and reduce the impact of traffic flow in congested areas.  The purchase of this vehicle was approved in the budgeting process.

Recommendations:

Approve purchase from Olathe Ford for one (1) compact pickup off the MACPP cooperative bid in the amount of $11,822.00 (Utilities/Distribution)
