Customer Service

The Management Team will be discussing customer service as a topic of common interest at their March 17th meeting.  A subcommittee of the Management Team is in charge of the program, which will include the presentation of a report with a definition of customer service, a list of service standards, recommended training, and suggested ways of monitoring performance in this important area.

LHBA Home Show

The Code Enforcement division of the Neighborhood Resources Department sent several staff members to the Lawrence Home Builders Association (LHBA) Home Show in February.  Inspection staff set up a booth and distributed a number of relevant brochures containing information on topics of interest to the attendees.  Additionally, the booth had a tv/vcr showing of proper construction methods and techniques, which gave staff the opportunity to answer pertinent questions concerning building permits, construction projects, and other related topics.

Smart Growth Update

As one of nine communities nationwide selected to participate in the 2004 Smart Growth Implementation Assistance Program, City staff participated in a teleconference with program officials earlier this month.  Funded by a grant from the U.S. EPA, this cooperative program is designed to provide communities with expert technical assistance to carry out Smart Growth reforms.  During the teleconference, the program’s Statement of Work was reviewed, with a final version available for staff later this month.  A final product is expected in early July – an outline of design issues and review protocol that staff can use to develop design standard regulations that will help achieve Smart Growth objectives and mitigate neighborhood concerns.
