Public Works Annual Report

Customer Service

As noted in a previous City Manager’s Report, the Management Team discussed customer service as a topic of common interest at their March 17th meeting.  A subcommittee of the Management Team submitted the attached report which contains several recommendations that are currently under review by the Management Team.  Additionally, draft Customer Service Standards (attached) have been developed and will be submitted for review and comments from the Employee Relations Council.  City Commission input regarding these efforts are welcome.  Customer Service Report  Customer Service Matrix  

 

KRPA Letter of Thanks

The attached letter from the Kansas Recreation and Park Association noted the efforts of Mitch Young and Craig Houfek with the Parks and Recreation Department in assisting with a recent meeting of the National Playground Safety Institute that was held in Lawrence.   KRPA Letter

 

Grease Control Program - Update

The attached memo from Jim Stuit, Field Operations Superintendent in the Utilities Department, summarizes activities associated with the department’s efforts to reduce the introduction of grease, fats, and oils into the City’s sanitary sewer collection system.  A significant cause of sewer backups, these substances are restricted via the Sewer Use section of the City code and staff is working through this program to educate and encourage voluntary compliance by specific customers.    Grease Control Update

 

Public Transit Public Hearings

In an ongoing effort to improve the transit system, the Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC) will be holding public hearings to gain feedback from the community on proposed route changes.  Informational packets explaining proposed route changes will be available Tuesday, March 30th at 933 New Hampshire.  The public hearings will be held on:

 

Saturday, April 10th, 10:00 – 11:30 am, Holcom Recreation Center

Tuesday, April 13th, 5:00 – 6:30 pm, Douglas County Fairgrounds, Bldg. 1

 

All public input received will be considered by PTAC and a formal recommendation will be forwarded to the City Commission for their decision.
