ITEM NO. 5: Consider request from area residents to construct a permanent TRAFFIC CALMING CIRCLE at the intersection of Goldfield Street and Eldridge Street.
Report:
1. At the October 2003 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, residents adjacent to the intersection requested that traffic control be provided.
2. The only crash reported by the Police Department since January 1999 occurred on 19 February 2001 involving a southbound vehicle and a parked vehicle.
3. Traffic studies conducted 16 September 2003 showed 85th percentile speeds ranging from 25.36 mph to 35.28 mph and traffic volumes of 1000-1230 vehicles per day on Goldfield and 210-260 vehicles per day on Eldridge.
4. Stop signs are not warranted for speed control, however, a traffic calming circle or speed humps may be appropriate is supported by area residents and approved by the City Commission.
5. The Commission recommended that a temporary traffic calming circle be installed. The City Commission concurred and the temporary device was installed in December.
6. A neighborhood meeting was held on March 3, 2004. All households within one block of the intersection were invited to attend.
7. The consensus of those present at the meeting was to request that a permanent traffic calming circle be constructed at the intersection.
ACTION: Provide recommendation to the City Commission.
