COUNTY RESOLUTION NO. 03-36

 

A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS AND DOUGLAS COUNTY, KANSAS CONCERNING THE IDENTIFICATION AND ESTABLISHMENT OF FUTURE BUSINESS PARKS IN LAWRENCE AND DOUGLAS COUNTY

 

Whereas, the City of Lawrence and Douglas County have enjoyed a long and productive history of cooperation in the economic development of our community; and

 

Whereas, the City of Lawrence and Douglas County have successfully cooperated in the establishment of the East Hills Business Park; and

 

Whereas, the City of Lawrence and Douglas County desire to cooperate in the identification and establishment of future business parks in Lawrence and Douglas County, including business parks adjacent to other cities within Douglas County; and

 

Whereas, representatives of the City of Lawrence, Douglas County, and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce have, through a collaborative effort, recently studied the issue and presented a report entitled:  “Future Business Park Criteria and Current Inventory”;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS:

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DOUGLAS COUNTY, KANSAS:

 

Section 1.    The above recitals are hereby incorporated as if fully set forth herein.

 

Section 2.    The governing bodies of both the City of Lawrence and Douglas County hereby instruct their respective staffs to begin the process of the identification of at least 1,000 acres consisting of three or more 200 to 300 acre sites for future business parks in the Lawrence/Douglas County area; additionally identification of one (1) 80 to 100 acre site for a future business park is also deemed appropriate.   The City of Lawrence and Douglas County governing bodies encourage discussions between the governing bodies and representatives of Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin City, the ECO 2 group, business leaders and other interested parties in the identification of these business park locations.  The City and County governing bodies also instruct the staff of the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Department to begin the process of updating the industrial chapter of Horizon 2020, the community’s comprehensive land use plan.

 

Section 3.        The governing bodies will receive periodic updates from the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Department and a final report of identified areas for future business parks will be presented no later than May 31, 2004.
