Aquatics Award
Jimmy Gibbs, Aquatics Manager, will report on
the 2004 NRPA Excellence in Aquatics Award that was received by the Parks and
Recreation Department at the National Aquatics Conference earlier this year.
Tree Program
Garners Two Awards Arbor Day Foundation letter
The attached letter from the National Arbor Day Foundation names Lawrence as a 2003 Tree City USA and recognizes Lawrence as a Growth Award recipient. Crystal
Miles, Parks and
Recreation Horticulture Supervisor, will share some highlights of recent tree
planting activities.
Earth Day Celebration
On Saturday, April 17, the 4th Annual Parade for the Earth
and Celebration in South
Park entertained over 200 parade participants.
This year the Stormwater Division partnered with the Waste Reduction and
Recycling Division to add Douglas County Water Festival and more than 50
activities, booths, live music and vendors to the celebration. A total of six city programs were featured at
the celebration: Curb side collection of
yard waste, programs at Prairie Park Nature Center, Parks and Recreation mulch sale, the Lawrence Transit System, biosolids
giveaways and stormwater.

Expansion
of Archived Minutes
City Commission meeting minutes from January 4, 2000 through November 5, 2002 have been
added to www.lawrenceks.org under Meeting
Minutes. The minutes from 2000, 2001 and
2002 are an expansion of the archives that held meeting minutes from April 6, 2004 through November 19, 2002. Web intern Matt Bunyard converted
archived Word documents housed by the City Clerk’s office into html files for
optimum web browsing.
