Re:                   City Commission Agenda Items

During the April 7, 2004 City Commission study session, the department briefed the commission on our request for consideration of the Station No. 5 and Station No. 4 projects as they pertain to the overall 1996 Public Safety Plan.  We received direction at that time from the Commission to move forward with these projects (Station No. 5 – construction; Station No. 4 – design).  We are requesting the following items be placed on the City Commission agenda for consideration at their May 4, 2004 meeting:

•   Affirm design and construction plans for Station No. 5, accept Douglas County’s financial participation letter, and adopt a Resolution authorizing $5,000,000 in debt authority.

•   Authorize staff to negotiate a design and construction contract with Sabatini and Associates for Station No. 4; and adopt a Resolution authorizing $150,000 in debt authority.

The design for a new Station No. 4 on Wakarusa Drive will be an adaptation of the construction documents Sabatini and Associates developed for Station No. 2, suited to the Wakarusa site.  We recommend negotiations with Sabatini and Associates due to their involvement in the design of Station No. 2 and Station No. 5.

The department will also proceed with the development of specifications for a new quint (for later city bidding).  Please let Deputy Chief Bradford or me know if you require any further information.
