UKSHA is a not for profit cooperative housing association that operates independently of the University of Kansas. The historic home will soon offer affordable housing to 10 students. The organization heroically worked to save this 114-year-old house from demolition by the University of Kansas. With the help of the Lawrence Preservation Alliance, UKSHA has successfully moved the house to its present Kentucky Street location. Unforeseen expenses at the end of the moving project put the housing association over its anticipated budget. The City is asking UKSHA to pay for the replacement value of the trees that had to be removed from the City right of way to complete the moving project. This includes payment for replacement trees, five years of watering, and for a number of years of “growth loss” related to the replacement trees. UKSHA is asking the City to be exempt from paying for the number of years of “growth loss”. The ONA Board of Directors supports this request. It believes that the student association’s efforts have added value to the neighborhood and the City by saving a historic home. The ONA is proud of the efforts and activities of UKSHA. This student association is a participating and conscientious member of the neighborhood. We hope that you will honor UKSHA’s request for a cost exemption. Thank you, Candice Davis, ONA President _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected?
