Re: Agenda Item
Date: May 11, 2004
Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at their May 18, 2004 meeting:
2004 Sanitary Sewer Root Control Program: - Utilities Project # GS04-06
Project History.
Approximately 25% of sewer backups in City sewer lines are caused by accumulation of tree roots. One of the methods the Utilities Department uses to reduce the risk of sanitary sewer backups is performing root control on sewers. For the last several years we have bid this service to appropriate contractors, but consistently receive responses from only one Dukes Root Control. In 2003, staff negotiated a reduced price of $0.99/foot, based on volume.
Project Status.
The Utilities Department has an option to extend last years contract at a mutually agreed upon price. The expenditures are planned and funds have been allocated in the Operations and Maintenance budget for 2004. General locations for the 2004 Root Control Program are:
Action Request.
We are requesting approval from the City Commission to extend the Root Control Program contract for an additional year with Dukes Root Control. Staff has identified 60,694 feet of pipe to be treated as part of the 2004 Root Control Program. The total cost of the purchase order that we are asking the City Commission to approve is $60,087.06. Funds will come from the Wastewater Collection Division O&M budget, account # 501-7410-584-2538.
Thank you for your assistance. Please advise if you have any questions.
