TO THE LAWRENCE CITY COMMISSION:

Our three neighborhoods are writing to reiterate our request of two weeks ago that you not approve the proposed site plan for the corner of 7th and Wisconsin Streets.  Our neighborhoods have turned out in force twice during the slow summer months to voice our concern about this proposed project and about the future of the surrounding neighborhood.  We will do so again on August 3.

We sincerely appreciate the action you have taken to initiate an area plan for the 6th Street corridor; we respect and commend your opposition to the proposed site plan voiced at the July 16 meeting.  Neither the proposed site plan (to our disappointment) nor our objections to it have changed since that meeting.  We hope and believe that you will stand by your previously stated positions.

We do want you to know that our opposition to the site plan still stands and our conviction has not lessened.  Out of respect for your time, rather than drafting a new letter we have attached our letter of July 11 as well as our proposed revisions to the planning office’s findings in the site plan review of July 6, 2004.  As you will see in these two documents, a decision not to approve this site plan is justified not only by Horizon 2020 but by city code itself.  Not only the court of public opinion but also a court of law would defend your right to exercise your discretion on this critically important matter.

Thank you for your patience!

Sincerely,

Sean Williams
