Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:      The Lawrence Indian Arts Show, in appreciation of the significance of American Indian art, brings together artists from across the country representing over fifty-three tribes and sixteen states to create an opportunity for the Lawrence community and the people of this region, including the metropolitan centers of Kansas City and Topeka, to gain an appreciation of the unique artistic creations of American Indians; and

WHEREAS:      The Lawrence Indian Arts Show, as a cooperative venture involving the University of Kansas, Haskell Indian Nations University, and the Lawrence Arts Center, creates an opportunity to enhance cross-cultural understanding and help create a social atmosphere conducive to equal opportunities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Rundle, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the period between September 11, 2004 through October 9, 2004 to be

“LAWRENCE INDIAN ARTS SHOW DAYS IN LAWRENCE”
