Re: Resolution Condemning Sidewalk, 722 Lawrence Avenue
Date: September 2, 2004
Public Works recommends we condemn the public sidewalk abutting the property at 722 Lawrence Avenue pursuant to K.S.A. 12-1850 et seq. Photographs of the sidewalk are attached.
The attached resolution orders the property owner to repair the sidewalk to city standards within 30 days of publication in The Lawrence Journal World. If the repairs are not made within the time specified, the City may cause the repairs to be made and assess the costs thereof to the property.
The Public Works Department advised the property owner, who lives in California, in 2002 of the need for repairs. No action was taken by the property owner to correct the sidewalk. I recently advised the owner in writing of the need to repair the sidewalk. I further advised that if repairs were not made, the city will condemn it and cause the sidewalk to be repaired. An inspection conducted today revealed the sidewalk is not repaired.
Staff recommends the City Commission pass the attached resolution condemning the sidewalk abutting the property at 722 Lawrence Avenue.
