The following is the verbiage that will be included on the Hobbs Park

Mural.  All of these were suggested through our community outreach.

 

The John Speer quote for the newspaper image in the Civil War era (2nd) panel of the mural:

 

"Now we do assert and declare, despite all the bolts and bars of an

iniquitous Kansas legislature, that persons have not the right to hold

slaves in this Territory'"

 

The Langston Hughes poem for the top of the middle panel:

 

Youth

We have tomorrow

Bright before us

Like a flame.

Yesterday

A night-gone thing,

A sun-down name.

And dawn today

Broad arch above the road we came.

We march!
