Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:   The University of Kansas’ Student Legislative Awareness Board (SLAB) was created in1994 with the purpose to aid the students of KU in their political education, by hosting forums, debates, and leading the way on Campus voter registration drives; and

 

WHEREAS:   SLAB was also designed in such a way to ensure KU students have a voice in other political arenas, including the Lawrence City Commission; and

 

WHEREAS:   Civic literacy directly relates to participation between university and city communities; and

 

WHEREAS:   SLAB will be hosting many events open to all students and Lawrence residents during the week of September 27th – October 2nd that promote civic literacy; and

 

WHEREAS:   SLAB and the University of Kansas hope that the city can join us in our celebration of civic engagement by registering to vote, coming to our event, or holding its own event;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Rundle, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim September 26 – October 2 to be
