RE:

Project No. 36-CP12-704(S)

Kasold Drive, Peterson Road to KTA Bridge

Street, Storm Sewer Improvements

At the April 13, 2004 commission meeting, the City Commission decided to place the construction of Kasold Drive, Peterson Road to the KTA, on the City’s 5-Year Plan.  KDOT accepted this project and has scheduled the project to bid in January 2007.  RFP’s were requested with only three responses.  All three firms were interviewed and evaluated based on the following criteria:  commitment of staff, ability to perform within timeframe, past performance, previous experience with similar work, work commitment that could limit performance, accessibility of firm’s office, familiarity with project area, knowledge of project procedures, consideration of project problems/issues, thoroughness of presentation, communication issues, ability to work with public, professionalism (comfort level with firm), and overhead costs.

We are recommending that PEC (Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A.) be selected to complete the design for this project.  PEC has proposed to move the letting date up to February 2006, which will coincide with the bridge project over the KTA, so that this section of road would only be closed once for the construction of the bridge and road.

The project will include a 5-lane section with sidewalks on both sides.  This is an 80/20 match with KDOT.  Estimated construction cost is $3,000,000; therefore, the City’s share would be approximately $600,000.  The City will also be responsible for engineering (proposal with PEC is in an amount of $162,460) and any additional right of way needed (none expected at this time).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Action Requested:   Approve Resolution No. 6566.

Respectfully submitted,
