The meeting at the Union Pacific Depot, 402 North 2nd Street was brought to order by Chair Johnston. Minutes of the July 13th meeting were approved on a motion by Bracciano, 2nd by Spratt.
The Board congratulated Alice Ann Johnston, who was recognized on July 28th by Corner Bank with a “Community Cornerstone Award” for her community volunteer service, including almost eight years service on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
The Board mentioned signage to help direct people to the new Sesquicentennial Point. Staff indicated signs are planned to be installed soon and additional signs on the dam road would be installed this fall by the Corp of Engineers.
Steinbrock reported that the fall activity brochure was distributed beginning August 1st and the first week of enrollment for fall activities saw a 7.3% increase overall a 21.3% increase in on-line enrollment.
DeVictor reported pool fee increase recommendations were on the City Commission agenda for tonight. The only increases for 2005 would be a $0.50 increase to $1.75 daily admission for ages 5-12 years.
Hecker reported on park projects including beginning development at Stonegate Park at Grand Vista Drive and Hunters Hill Drive; the indoor aquatic center was closed for two weeks from August 1st-14th for general cleaning, maintenance and installation of a UV filtration system; cracks are being repaired in-house at the Lawrence Tennis Center and trees and mums are being ordered for fall planting.
DeVictor handed out a recreation revenue report through July, which showed 64% of our projection or $864,058 were met compared to 69% in the same time period in 2003. Aquatics revenue was down due to the mild summer weather.
DeVictor reported the Corp of Engineers at Clinton Lake have requested City in-kind support for a grant for a trail connection for the SLT trail to Sanders Mound and the Corp overlook area south of their visitor center.
Board member were invited to a September 9th reception at the Depot for Doug Vance, new KRPA Executive Director.
