WHEREAS: Central United Methodist Church began as the United Brethren in 1854; and
WHEREAS: The first pastor, Reverend Snyder, was the first person killed in Quantrill’s Raid; and
WHEREAS: In 1948 the church merged with the Evangelical Church to become the Evangelical United Brethren Church; and
WHEREAS: Services began in 1948 in a new building and the current location at 1501 Massachusetts Street; and
WHEREAS: In 1968, the church merged with the Methodist Church and was named Central United Methodist Church;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Rundle, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby recognize Sunday, October 10 as the
“150TH ANNIVERSARY OF CENTRAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH”
