Home Energy Conservation Fair/Sustainable Homes Tour a Success

On Sunday, October 17th, over 400 people attended the 4th Annual Home Energy Conservation Fair at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds to view the exhibits of architects, engineers, specialty heating, cooling, power supply and home products providers and alternatively fueled vehicles. Sponsored by the Recycling and Resource Conservation Advisory Board, the Fair provided workshops and speakers focused on home energy conservation strategies and innovative ideas in building, remodeling and fuel efficient transport.   About 75 people also attended one of two tours of Douglas County Sustainable Homes which featured a cob (mixture of sand, clay, straw) playhouse, a straw bale studio, an affordable rehab, and homes using insulated concrete forms (ICFs) and both active and passive solar design.   Photos from Fair

 

Rental Registration Update

Since the inception of the rental registration program on February 1, 2002, staff from the Neighborhood Resources Department has conducted a total 2,967 inspections on rental units located in RS districts.  During this period 5,274 code violations have been identified and corrected.  As of September 30, 2004, a total of 2,363 properties have registered as rentals.  This list is maintained on the department website (www.lawrenceneighres.org) and updated monthly.
