2005 Water line Improvements –Engineer Services ( Final Design) :

The Utilities Department received engineering proposals in July of this year to complete a preliminary design report for the Downtown Waterline Improvement Projects  along 6^th Street, Tennessee to Massachusetts;  Massachusetts, 6^th to 11^th Street;   7^th Street, Massachusetts to New Hampshire. Information in the completed report was presented at a public meeting of downtown business owners and included water line alignment, sizing options, construction phasing of the improvements, traffic control and cost estimates to complete the work.  Discussion with the business representatives will be considered in the final design of the first phase.  The first phase of construction includes waterline work along 6^th Street, from Tennessee to Massachusetts; Massachusetts, 6^th to 7^th Street and 7^th Street, from Massachusetts to New Hampshire. In addition, the work will include some replacement of electrical conduit and wiring to the lighting  in the  area on Massachusetts.

ACTION

Utility Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to enter into an engineering contract for the Final Design of the first phase of waterline improvements with BG Consultants in the amount of$71,982.40 as recommended by Department staff.  The project will be funded from the non-bonded construction fund for 2005 waterline improvements.
