The meeting at the East Lawrence Recreation Center was brought to order by Chair Johnston. Minutes of the August 10th meeting were approved on motion by Bracciano, 2nd by Spratt.
DeVictor reported the City Commission approved the recommendation for City involvement for a bike trail extension from the Southwest Lawrence Trafficway to Sanders Mound at Clinton Lake. The Corp will provide the grant application.
DeVictor reported that Chuck Warner will head up a campaign for the Sesquicentennial Commission to raise funds this fall for Sesquicentennial Point and that about $73,000 had been pledged so far.
A joint committee of the Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation staff and Board was discussed to review the comprehensive planning for parks and recreation and Chapter 9 of the Horizon 2020 plan. Staff asked for a Board member to serve on this committee. Chair Johnston asked Tom Bracciano to serve and he accepted.
Steinbrock reported on updating the marketing plan for Eagle Bend Golf Course and upgrading the activity brochure for winter.
Shaw reported successful Fishing Clinic at Mary’s Lake, Fall Arts and Crafts Festival and was pursuing locations for the gymnastics program.
Hecker reported on park projects including: planting about 1,000 mums in park flower beds, South Park Center renovations South Park west side playground and irrigation, ponds at the Rotary Arboretum, new water lines to the off-leash dog area and Stonegate Park development.
DeVictor asked the Board to speak at the September 22nd Commission Transportation 2025 amended recommendations and asked that a letter be written by the Board to address a future road alignment crossing the 97-acre natural park west of Folks Road and Peterson Road. Chair Johnston would work with LPRD staff to prepare a letter.
