RE:

Appointments to boards and commissions

I recommend the following individuals for the appointments listed below.  I have included phone numbers (when available).  Please feel free to call any of them to discuss their potential appointments.  I believe they are willing to answer your questions or receive any comments you might have.

Grant Review Board:

Reappoint Richard Heckler (843.0103) and William Jeltz (unlisted #) to additional terms that will expire 12/31/07.

Housing Trust Fund:

Reappoint Barbara Carswell (749.2361), Mark Gonzales (841.9608), and Paul Davis (749.1942) to additional terms that will expire 12/31/07.  Also appoint Ernie Eck (749.5131) to the position vacated by Ed Tato.  Since this term expires 12/31/04, Mr. Eck will be appointed to a first full term that will expire 12/31/07.

Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Commission:

Public Transit Advisory Committee:

Appoint Blake Huff (691.6623) to the position held by Tim Akright.  Since this term expires 12/31/04, Mr. Huff will be appointed to a first full term that will expire 12/31/07.  Also appoint Richard Heckler (843.0103) to the position held by Melodie Christal.  Since this term expires 12/31/04, Mr. Heckler will be appointed to a first full term that will expire 12/31/07.

Recycling and Resource Conservation Advisory Board:

Appoint John Craft (832.2091) to the position held by Lewis Phillips.  Since this term expires 12/31/04, Mr. Craft will be appointed to a first full term that will expire 12/31/07.

Please note:  John Craft was recently appointed to the Uniform Building Code Board of Appeals (UBC).  Mr. Craft has certification as an energy auditor and has been involved with the efforts to establish a recycled building materials facility.  The RRCAB is interested in furthering discussion of adoption of a local energy code.  Discussions of this opening with Mollie Mangerich led to the conclusion that some efficiencies might be gained from this joint appointment to the UBC and RRCAB.

Sister Cities Advisory Board:

Reappoint Graham Kreicker (842.2332), Jon Josserand (843.1948), Karen Swisher (749.8497), Kathleen Hodge (832.1404), and Nancy Bjorge (842.6546) to additional terms that will expire 12/31/07.
