RE:	Project No. 67-CP21-1104(C) Alley – 8^th to 9^th, Vermont to Kentucky Pavement Reconstruction

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the November 30, 2004 meeting:

Project Description.  This project will reconstruct the alley between Vermont and Kentucky from 8^th to 9^th.

Project History.  This alley was selected for reconstruction as one portion of the maintenance projects for city streets in 2004.  The 2004 Street Maintenance Program was presented to the City Commission on April 13, 2004 and included this alley in the program.

Project Status.  The plans for this alley reconstruction have been completed by the city engineering staff.

Project Details.  The existing alley pavement (brick overlaid with asphalt) will be removed and reconstructed as 8” concrete pavement.  All brick will be salvaged and delivered to 11^th and Haskell.  The alley will be closed to all traffic during the construction period of approximately 3 months.  The residents and employees of these businesses will be provided long term parking along Kentucky, in the Carnegie Building parking lot, and in the parking lot on the east side of Vermont.  The dumpsters in the alley will be moved into the parallel parking spaces along Kentucky and Vermont.

Project Funding.  This project is funded by budgeted funds in the gas tax fund.

Action Request.  Set bid date of December 14, 2004 for Project No. 67-CP21-1104(C), Alley – 8^th to 9^th, Vermont to Kentucky, Pavement Reconstruction.
