Subject:  Chemical Bids for 2005

Jeanette Klamm and I have gone over the wastewater and water treatment chemical bids for 2005.  There are two changes that need to be made.  First, when following up on the GS Robins chlorine bid, it was discovered that they do not own a flatbed truck which is necessary for delivery at each of the Water Plants.  We therefore request that DPC Industries (the second lowest bidder) be awarded the chlorine bid.  This discrepancy will be addressed in next year’s instructions to bidders.

Second, Wastewater Division requests that since the price is the same for both Mississippi Lime products for which they requested bids, they would prefer to accept the 96% available pebble Quick Lime.  Please contact Jeanette Klamm if there is a question about this.

We feel that the low bidders for all the other chemicals will meet the specifications put forth in the bid document.  We therefore recommend that the City Commission accept the lowest bid for each of these chemicals.

I would also like to point out that for the first time in several years; most of our chemical bids went up for the coming year.  This is probably due to increased delivery costs caused by higher gas prices.  Also, chlorine and polymer markets are up right now due to lack of raw materials in the world market.  I expect the 2005 chemical costs per 1000 gallons of water to increase by possibly as much as 15% in the coming year.
