Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the November 23, 2004 meeting:

Accept Low Bid – Clinton Parkway and Wakarusa Relief Sewer (Proj. # PS04-33)

This is a capital improvement project from the 2003 Wastewater Master Plan that is scheduled for completion in 2005.  The Utilities Department Desires to install a sanitary sewer relief line that will permit the decommissioning of Pump Station #33, located at 4820 Clinton Parkway

 

Project History.  The Utilities Department solicited engineering proposals for design and construction phase services fro this project in April of 2004.  Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A.(PEC) was selected for the project. On June 8, 2004 the City Commission approved a contract with PEC for design and construction phase services in the amount of $34,888.00.

Project Status.  The Engineer completed design of the project and bids were opened on November 16, 2004.  The table below contains the bid information as well as the Engineer’s Estimate.  PEC has recommended that we award the contract to the low bidder.

Project Details.  The project involves installation of approximately 550 lineal feet of 8” sanitary sewer pipe to be directionally drilled underneath Clinton Parkway, just east of Wakarusa Drive.  This pipeline will allow sewage from the Pump Station #33 service area to flow by gravity to a trunk sewer south of Clinton Parkway.  See the attached map for location project location details. 

 

Due to the technical nature of the specifications and staff time commitments, no portion of this project could be done in-house.

 

No street closures or significant traffic impacts are anticipated with this project.

 

Project Funding.  This project will be funded with Capital Improvement Project funds.

 

Action Request.  Utility Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to award the bid for this project to the low bidder Nowak Construction Co. in the amount of $79,185.00.
