RE:

2005 Legislative Policy Statement

Attached is a draft City 2005 Legislative Policy Statement.  The Commission discussed this issue at their November 30, 2004 City Commission meeting.  The Commission reviewed the 2004 statement and the League’s Municipal Policy Statement.  The Commission requested that Commissioners provide comments by December 14.  Commissioner Schauner suggested that the statement include language:  supporting our current eminent domain authority, retaining current taxation and other authority, and continued lobbying for sales tax authority on Internet sales.  The DRAFT statement includes these provisions in addition to Commission views on the MARC Smart Moves plan, the importance of KPERS to retaining public servants, and the importance of K-12/higher education to economic development.

A breakfast meeting with the Douglas County legislators is planned for Wednesday, January 5, 2005.  The 2005 Legislative Session begins on January 10, 2005.
