Please place the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at their December 21, 2004 meeting:

Adoption of City Commission Goals

Review consultant’s summary notes and her presentation of the Commission’s Strategic Goals and Priorities.

Background

During the City Commission’s retreat on November 19-20, 2004, Carol Nalbandian served as facilitator to the commission and City Manager’s Office staff to accomplish the following objectives:

• Review and revise Strategic Goals.
• Identify key objectives to be accomplished in the next 12 to 18 months.
• Discuss internal and external issues.

Current Status

Attached please find correspondence from Ms. Nalbandian that provides her summary notes of the activities that took place at the retreat as well as a list of Strategic Goals and Priorities, per her understanding of City Commission discussion and direction at the retreat.

Next Steps

If the Commission is agreeable to adopting the attached goals and priorities, it is Ms. Nalbandian’s recommendation that “the staff outlines tasks for each of the key objectives”, then staff would use that document as our progress reporting mechanism to the Commission during the upcoming months.

Commission Action

Approve Strategic Goals and Priorities (attached) and direct staff to outline tasks for each of the key objectives, if appropriate.
