· There is an estimated population of 220-250 persons in Lawrence currently experiencing homelessness of which the 24/7 coverage serves only a portion.
· The low temperatures and cold conditions of the winter months present a difficult time for individuals and families when hours of service providers are not continuous and have gaps.
· The Drop-In Center and the Open Shelter are merging to offer services more efficiently and comprehensively to people experiencing homelessness. The name of the combined organization will be the Lawrence Community Shelter.
· Collaboration between The Salvation Army, Community Drop-In Center, and Lawrence Open Shelter improves delivery of services to the population experiencing homelessness in Lawrence and gives the broader community a better grasp of the work being done by agencies on the issue of homelessness.
· 24/7 coverage is not just providing shelter but is a fuller program to help people get off the streets and make a permanent improvement in their lives.
