CALL TO ORDER

 

The monthly meeting of the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Board was held Monday,

October 18, 2004.  Chair Tom Liebl called the meeting to order.

 

 

MINUTES

 

The September Health Board minutes were approved on a motion by Gladys Sanders with a second by Donna Bell.

 

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

 

Flu-X for Priority Groups

 

Kay Kent reviewed the Health Department’s plan to proceed with the Flu-X for Priority Groups immunization clinic scheduled for Saturday, October 23rd at Free State High School.  The mass vaccination exercise has been modified, targeting only those individuals in high-risk categories as determined by the CDC.  Also, because of the national vaccine shortage the Kansas Department of Health and Environment will not longer be providing vaccine for the clinic.  The Health Department’s standard fees will apply.  Kay Kent discussed the priority groups and different strategies for getting flu vaccine to the high risk groups should additional vaccine become available.

 

 

ACTIVITY AND FINANCIAL/VOUCHER REPORTS

 

Donna Bell moved that the Board accept the financial and activity reports for September.  Gladys Sanders provided the second and the motion passed.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Director’s Report

 

  1. The Health Department and other Douglas County officials will participate in an exercise sponsored by FEMA.  The exercise is scheduled for December 6-10, 2004 in Maryland.  Kay Kent, Richard Ziesenis, and Kim Ens plan to attend.  FEMA will cover all of the associated costs of the seminar and travel expenses with the exception of the weekly meal ticket.

 

2.      Stacy Robarge, Medical Reserve Corps Planner, resigned effective October 23, 2004.

 

3.      DeeAnne Schoenfeld, RN accepted the Immunization Charge Nurse position, effective November 1, 2004.

 

4.      Patty Applequist, RN accepted the Public Health Nurse position, effective October 18, 2004.

 

Other New Business

 

1.      The Health Department received a grant in the amount of $5,000 for West Nile Virus community education for the term of September 1, 2004June 30, 2005.  Chair Tom Liebl signed the contract.

 

2.      The next Health Board meeting is scheduled for November 15, 2004.

 

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Gladys Sanders and consensus of the Board.
