Re:      Hanscom-Tappen Addition PRD

Dear Commissioners:

Regarding the concurrent submission for the south parcel that is under consideration as part of the Hanscom-Tappen Addition PRD, our neighborhood generally supports this inclusion to the previously approved PRD.

1)    We are pleased to note the expansion of the internal public green space pocket-park,

2)    We support the additional parcel being included if all previous conditions apply equally to the new parcel.

3)    We appreciate the enhanced internal circulation by connecting the Oliver's Trail cul-de-sac to Haskell Ave. with a bicycle/pedestrian path.

4)    BUT, we still do not agree that that internal circulation principle should automatically apply to automobile access: i.e. making a full-width street connection betweenAnna Tappen Way and the Hanscom Road cul-de-sac. This is because our neighborhood has experienced severe commuter cut-through traffic on other residential streets due to autos avoiding the congested 15' & Haskell intersection. By connecting the streets through this subdivision, the City is asking for future problems that will need expensive traffic calming retro-fits.

We DO want to have bicycle/pedestrian/wheelchair connectivity through this area of the subdivision, but NOT auto connectivity. Can you please do one of two things here?

a)      Throat the street width down to a l Ofoot width at the cul-de-sac for bicycle/ pedestrian/wheelchair access only. OR

b)      Install two successive half-street width chicanes on Anna Tappen Way just east of the cul-de-sac, to greatly slow and deter the auto traffic.

We feel that we could accept either of these solutions to the auto commuter cut-through problems that will surely arise here, Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Michael Almon
