Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:      In 2005, the committee for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade of Lawrence, Kansas celebrates its 18th year as an organization in Lawrence; and

 

WHEREAS:      The parade committee encompasses four basic themes:

 

First, to honor Irish Americans and their contributions to America;

 

Second, to celebrate the legend and spirit of St. Patrick through a fun, good old-fashioned parade;

 

Third, to promote an atmosphere of benevolence, friendship, and cooperation through the parade and other associated events; and

 

Fourth, to support and exemplify the idea that charity and goodwill begins at home, benefiting your friends, neighbors, and the Lawrence community; and

 

WHEREAS:      The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is self-supporting, and depends solely on the resources of interested businesses and citizens who donate their time, talents, and good humor to sponsor worthwhile charitable causes on a yearly basis; and

 

WHEREAS:      This years’ parade will be dedicated in honor of the passing of two very dear friends of the parade known in their own right for dedication to their communities, Mrs. Barbara B. McDonald and Mr. Arthur “Bud” Newell.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Rundle, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Thursday, March 17, 2005, for the day of the City of Lawrence’s

 

“EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL SAINT PATRICK’S DAY PARADE”

 

Furthermore, The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee once again presents to the City of Lawrence the auction held on March 5, our sixteenth annual “Shamrock Shuffle” 5 K Run on Saturday, March 12, the dart tourney, on February 26th, and Queen Coronation on March 13th, pub quiz on Sunday February 20th and The Parade on Thursday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m. for proper recognition and congratulate all interested citizens of Lawrence and surrounding communities for participating in these events.
