RE:	Additional Engineering Costs for Monterey Way South March 15, 2005 Agenda Item

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the March 15, 2005 meeting:

Supplemental Engineering Contract.  This is a benefit district project that is scheduled to bid this spring/summer.  The project involves the construction of Monterey Way from Stetson Drive to Peterson Road. 

Project History.  This project has a history that dates back several years.  More recently, a benefit district was established/completed in 2003.  In February 2004 Landplan was hired to design this street (including Monterey Way north of Peterson Road to Grand Vista Drive, and Peterson Road from Martin Park Drive to Kasold Drive).

Project Status.  The project plans are approaching completion.

• Southern Star should begin their gas main relocation in March 2005.
• Right-of-way and easements are pending final plans and need to be acquired.
• Project could bid later this spring/summer.

Project Details.  The project consists of the construction of Monterey Way from Stetson Drive to Peterson Road, including sidewalks, bike lanes and drainage improvements.  The additional services required of Landplan include the design of a retaining wall and some landscaping along Monterey Way.  Due to the extreme topography and the relationship of adjacent property to cut/fill sections, a substantial retaining wall(s) will need to be constructed.

Project Funding.  The project is being funded 100% by the benefit district with the exception that the City is paying for the additional width of the pavement for the construction of bike lanes.

Action Request.  Authorize the Mayor to sign Supplemental Agreement with Landplan Engineering in an amount of $40,130 for additional services for Monterey Way from Stetson Drive to Peterson Road.
