Bids for this project will be opened at 2pm on March 15, 2005. We would like to request bid approval at the March 15 City Commission meeting. This would allow the project to proceed more expeditiously due to the lack of a meeting on March 22.
1. Project Description. This project will reconstruct storm sewers in the four locations shown on the attached map. These improvements will address concerns received from residents during 2004.
2. Project Details. This project is described as a miscellaneous improvement. The 1996 Stormwater Management Master Plan estimated that projects of this size would be periodically necessary. The locations chosen have been prioritized by the Engineering Department based on frequency of flooding.
- 700 Block Maine Street – A new storm sewer will be constructed to remove flow from a previously abandoned brick tunnel. A portion of the pipe will be bored to protect existing houses.
- Arrowhead and Bently – north of Peterson, the existing storm sewer will be replaced to improve capacity. Also, a drainage easement will be regraded to provide increased overflow.
- 8th Street and Holiday Drive – Large curb inlets will be replaced to increase capacity. An open inlet will also be modified to improve pedestrian safety. New structures are sized to work with a future capital improvement planned in the area.
- 3500 Block Trail Road – Curb inlets will be replaced to increase capacity.
3. In-house Design. Due to the small size and multiple locations involved, design and plans for this project were completed in-house. Typical consulting fees for this work would have been roughly $30,000.
4. Project Funding. Funding for this project is available within the 2005 budget for stormwater projects.
5. Action Request. Approve bid for miscellaneous stormwater improvements. Bids will be received at 2pm on March 15, 2005 and a staff recommendation will be provided prior to the meeting.
