On March 22, 2005, the City of Lawrence opened proposals for the following:  

Bid#0511 –  One (1) Wheel Loader – Public Works Department

Public Works Solid Waste Reduction requested bids for a wheel loader due to high maintenance costs on their present equipment.  The loader in use now is a 1988 John Deere model 544E with over 9000 hours of use.   The low bid from Berry Tractor would not pass the physical demonstration. The second place bidder from Sellers Equipment Co. would not meet specs for lift height to dump into the tub grinder.  The third place bid from Murphy Tractor passed all the physical demonstration tests and met all specifications. It is our recommendation that we accept the John Deere 624 HJ bid from Murphy Tractor including the following options, cooling fan, air filter pre-cleaner, 23.5 R 25 tires, front axle disconnect, and 10 amp converter with 12 volt port costing an additional $9630.00.  This purchase was approved in the 2005 budgeting process. 

Recommendation Action:

Approve bid from Murphy Tractor and Equipment for one (1) Wheel Loader and options  in the amount of $122,390.00     (Public Works/Solid Waste Reduction)
