On November 22, 2004, the Fire Code Board of Appeals (hereinafter “the Board”) recommended adoption of an ordinance amending the City’s blasting regulations.  Upon receiving public comment on the Board’s recommended ordinance, the Commission directed the Board to further review the ordinance, taking into account issues and concerns raised by the public at the November 22^nd meeting.

Staff prepared an ordinance incorporating nearly all of the points raised by the public and/or the Commission, at the November 22, 2004 City Commission meeting.  The revised ordinance was forwarded to the Board in mid-January, 2005.  The Board began its in-depth review of the revised draft ordinance on February 23, 2005.  The review continued at the following Board of Appeals meetings:  March 16, March 30, and April 27.

At the April 27^th Board meeting, Steve Glass, LRM Industries, commented on the draft ordinance and submitted a three-page letter addressing various provisions of the draft ordinance.  The Board wishes to further consider the points raised by Mr. Glass, and review the definitions section of the draft ordinance. 

Rich Barr estimates two or three more Board meetings will be necessary to complete its review of the ordinance.  The ordinance and a memorandum explaining the Board’s recommendations will then be forwarded to the Commission for its consideration.
