Carpenter called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.
1. Hear Huxtable and Associates appeal of Section 5-608 as it applied to 730 New Hampshire St. (Hobbs Taylor project)
Staff started the discussion by reviewing the history of section 5-608 and
explaining that the paragraph, restricting the use of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
piping to buildings three stories or less in height, may have been an oversight
by staff and the Board during the last code adoption process.
Staff stated that the height restriction was in the 1997 UPC (Uniform Plumbing Code) and the ordinance restricting the use of PVC piping to residential uses was added to the section in the UPC restricting the height. Staff continued that the paragraph restricting the height had been deleted in the 2000 UPC and the City ordinance did not reflect the change in the UPC.
Carpenter turned the floor over to Chris Champagne of Huxtable and Associates Inc.
Champagne stated that Huxtable and Associates was appealing section 5-608 to allow use of PVC piping at Hobbs Taylor project. Champagne explained that the material had been approved for use in the residential areas during the design phase of the project with staff.Champagne continued that a similar application had already been completed at 745 New Hampshire and approved.
Champagne thanked the Board for their time and consideration of the appeal.
Hoag made a motion to delete section 5-608 entirely. Breithaupt second the motion, the motion passed 3-0-1. Lewis abstained because of his employment by Huxtable & Associates.
Hoag made a motion to approve the appeal and to allow the use of PVC at the Hobbs Taylor project. Breithaupt second the motion, the motion passed 3-0-1. Lewis abstained because of his employment by Huxtable & Associates.
With no other business a motion was made by Breithaupt to adjourn the meeting, Lewis second the motion, the motion passed 4-0.
Carpenter adjourned the meeting at 4:35 p.m.
