SUBJECT:  Building Code Board of Appeals review a request to eliminate restrictive covenants that require wood shakes or shingles.

At a regular scheduled meeting held February 24, 2005 the Building Code Board of Appeals reviewed the request by Mr. Stewart Nolin to restrict the use of wood shakes or shingles.  The Board drafted and approved the following recommendation by a vote of 5-0.

“The Building Code Board of Appeals realizes that there are inherent reasons against the use of wood shake shingles,  but the Board can see no reason based on review of the Code to recommend amending the Code to prohibit use of wood shake shingles in the City of Lawrence.”

The minutes of the February 24 meeting and March 14, 2005 meeting were approved at a subsequent meeting held May 4, 2005.

Action Items

If appropriate, direct staff and the Building Code Board of Appeals to take no further action on the request and advise Mr. Nolin of the decision.
