RE:	Traffic Safety Recommendation Meeting of May 2, 2005 – Item No. 2 Adult Crossing Guard:  27^th Street and Mayfair Drive                                  28^th Street and Kensington Road

At their May 2, 2005 meeting the Traffic Safety Commission considered the request of David Williams, Principal of Prairie Park Elementary School, to establish an adult crossing guard at the intersections of 27^th and Mayfair Drive during the morning crossing period, and at 28^th Street and Kensington Road during the afternoon crossing period.  Both crossings met the City’s School Crossing Control Policy and are being recommended. 

Currently, a crossing guard is provided at 27^th Street and Mayfair Drive during the afternoon crossing period and at 28^th Street and Kensington Road during the morning crossing period.  Therefore, this recommendation would cause one additional crossing guard position. 

On January 11, 2005 the City Commission approved the addition of a crossing guard at Arrowhead and Princeton which was not in the 2005 budget.  The addition of this position is not in the 2005 budget and should be added to the 2006 budget if the City Commission desires.  The annual cost of this position is $5,500.

Action Requested:  Receive Traffic Safety Commission recommendation and provide staff direction.
