Re:        Shared service line at McCullough property

Sanitary Sewer Service Line

Several options are available for the sewer service line for the properties at 710-712 West 6th Street and 545-547 Indiana Street.  The existing sewer line runs across the 545-547 Indiana Street property.  This sewer line will be abandoned with this project and a new sewer line will be constructed in the alley north of these properties.  The existing service line for the 710-712 West 6th Street property currently connects to the existing sewer line on the 545-547 Indiana Street property.  It would be difficult and expensive for the 710-712 West 6th Street property to connect to the proposed sewer line in the alley without crossing the 545-547 Indiana Street property.  The building would have to be replumbed in order to have the service line exit on the north wall.  The existing utilities on the property also make this a difficult alignment.

The alignment for the proposed service line was chosen based upon the most cost-effective and least disruptive alignment.  Although the two properties could be served by two service lines in one trench, it would add to the expense of the project.  The property owners are currently related (father/son) and have expressed interest in joining the two properties with a building.  This is a unique situation that is complicated by the realignment of the existing sewer.
