Fireworks Update

The attached memo from Ron Olin, Police Chief, provides a report on departmental activity associated with fireworks calls during the recent 4th of July holiday.

Street Inventory  Update

The attached map illustrates the streets inventoried to date and those scheduled to be inspected in July, 2005.  This inventory step is the first component of the Pavement Management System that has been developed in the Public Works Department to prioritize street maintenance projects.  The inventory component is 78% complete

Conservation Efforts – Utilities Department

The attached memo from Michael Tubbs, Management Analyst for the Utilities Department provides information regarding the department’s conservation program.  Additionally, the following update is provided:

• Department staff has had several meetings over the past year to develop an initial implementation plan for the following four core conservation efforts:  Waterwise program for 5^th Graders; development of a demonstration garden; workshop/classes; and public event display.  These are just four measures from the larger matrix shown in the attached memo.
• Department staff met with Neighborhood Resources staff to discuss the Waterwise program and they had positive comments.
• Staff presented conservation information at the April Mid-Manager meeting (a quarterly meeting of mid-level managers from a variety of departments, such as Public Works, Parks & Rec, Planning, etc.)
• Staff met with Parks and Recreation management staff on June 29, 2005 to discuss development of a demonstration garden and course offerings related to conservation/low maintenance landscaping.
• Staff plans to begin the Waterwise program in 4-5 schools as a pilot program and if successful expand the program to the entire district within 1 year.

Rental Registration/Inspection Program

The attached memo provides an update on this Neighborhood Resources program.
