Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the July 12, 2005 meeting:

Authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. for the Westwood Hills and Bauer Brook Estates Sanitary Sewer Study in the amount of $17,849.00.

Project History/Status.  As the result of a meeting with the affected stakeholders in the Westwood Hills and Bauer Brook developments, Utility Department staff solicited proposals to evaluate the extension of sanitary sewer service to these areas.  The evaluation will also incorporate strategies which will allow the Utility Department to decommission two of its existing sanitary sewer pump stations: Pump Stations 18 and 40.  Attached is a map of the area.

Following the completion of the study, the design alternatives and their associated costs will be reviewed by staff and a recommended engineering design and construction project presented to the stakeholders, along with a discussion of cost participation.

May 2005 – Staff advertised a Request for Proposals for the above listed project.

June 2005 – Staff received seven Proposals from seven interested engineering consultants. 

Based on their overall professional experience, proposed project approach and understanding, cost projections, schedule, qualifications of the Project Manager and staff, Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. is recommended for the project.

Project Funding.  This project will be funded from the non-bonded construction fund.  When costs associated with the design/construction of improvements to this area are determined and assessed between all stakeholders, the City’s participation in this study will be credited to the City’s share of the total cost of the project.

Action Request.  Utility Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to enter into a Contract with Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. in the amount of $17,849.00 for the completion of the Westwood Hills and Bauer Brook Estates Sanitary Sewer Study.
