The Lawrence Public Library wishes to embark on a project to re-carpet certain high traffic areas of the library where the present carpeting is very worn. These areas include the library lobby, media room, hallway near the public restrooms, entrance to the children’s room, and major hallways throughout the children’s room. 700 square yards of carpeting, 240 linear feet of base, and 48 linear feet of door transitions would be involved. Lift equipment will be used to install carpeting under the circulation desk and children’s service desk. We have specified high-quality patterned carpet tiles.

We would purchase the carpeting from state contract. The total cost of the project will be $25,975.

The installation work would be accomplished during night and weekend hours so as not to disrupt library operations. (The library is open 7 days a week, year-round, 73 hours per week.)

Recommendation Action:

Approve purchase of replacement carpeting for Lawrence Public Library from state contract (Commercial Floorworks, Inc. of Lawrence) in the amount of $25,975.00.
