City Project No. 5-GI1-105(S) State Project No. 10-23 KA-0134-01 Left Turn Lane on 23rd and Harper Street Geometric, Traffic Signal Improvements |
The city received a geometric improvement grant from KDOT for the construction of a left turn lane on Harper Street (northbound) at 23rd Street. The estimated cost of the project is: engineering, $28,909.85; estimated 2008 construction, $275,000.00. The City Commission approved the engineering contract with BG Consultants on August 23, 2005.
The construction estimate may be light. Relocation of the signals was not anticipated when the project was developed. During the interview process with the various engineering firms, the consensus was that higher construction costs were a likely possibility. I have discussed the construction costs with KDOT and they have concurred that if additional expenses occur they (KDOT) can still fund at the 80/20 cost share. This could add $75,000-$100,000 to the project construction cost depending upon the work and improvements to the signals (i.e. upgrading the system from loops to video).
