Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   Walktober in Downtown Lawrence is a collaborative project of Downtown Lawrence Inc., Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and the Community Health Improvement Project; and

WHEREAS:   Walktober in Downtown Lawrence celebrates a new national walking campaign designed to boost walking in just 31 days from the national average of 4,000 steps a day to 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day; and

WHEREAS:   Walktober in Downtown Lawrence is a campaign to inspire individuals to make walking a priority in October and beyond; and

WHEREAS:   Walktober in Downtown Lawrence invites the community to do their walking in Downtown Lawrence, a picturesque environment, clean and safe, and visually exciting with specialty shops, galleries and restaurants set in a walking environment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dennis “Boog” Highberger, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of October to be

“WALKTOBER IN DOWNTOWN LAWRENCE”
