Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   The Knights of Columbus Councils 1372 and 12960 in Lawrence will be extending a helping hand to individuals during the 14^th, 15^th, and 16^th days of October by participating in the 35^th annual fund drive for people with mental disabilities; and

WHEREAS:   Hundreds of citizens have received needed assistance from the Knight’s Tootsie Roll campaign through which over $7,075 was raised last year; and

WHEREAS:   It is important to be aware of the need to assist these citizens, who with training and instruction can be prepared to lead happy and productive lives;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dennis “Boog” Highberger, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim October 14, 15, and 16 to be

“KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS HELPING PEOPLE WITH MENTAL DISABILITIES DAYS”

And urge all citizens of this community to recognize the merits of this cause by contributing generously to its support through the purchase of a tootsie roll on the days set aside to raise money to help those agencies concerned with people with mental retardation in this area.
