Meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by Sandra Wiechert, Vice Chair.

Approval of minutes of last meeting:  Numerous amendments recommended to minutes of April 2005 meeting; most errors concerned misspelling of Commissioners names. Ridgway moved to approve with amendments; Rapport seconded motion. Motion carried unanimously

2) Subcommittee Reports

            Grants:  checks will be presented to winning recipients at the May 31, 2005 City Commission meeting IF APPROVED BY NEW MAYOR. If not approved, the Arts Commission will make the awards at the next meeting.

            Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit: Ridgway reported that all information about the artists and their sculptures for the brochure has been turned over to graphic designer, Trent Flory.

            Margaret Morris has made arrangements with HyVee to cater the reception at the Lawrence Arts Center. The opening of the exhibition is June 11, 2005.

            The walking tour with commentary by the judge, David Cateforis will begin promptly at 5:30 PM at the Lawrence Arts Center; the tour usually takes about an hour, looping around downtown and ending at the Arts Center.

            One piece has already been delivered; six pieces will be delivered Friday, May 13, from 9 AM to 3 PM to the building on Moody Street. One piece has been damaged; the artist is in the process of restoration.

            Percent for Art: Schaefer reported that he had called the Fire Chief, mainly just to introduce himself. He also talked with members of the Fire Department about the committee that would be formed to choose art for the new Fire Station.

            Developmental Workshops: no report

            Phoenix Awards: Chair plans to reserve a date soon at the Arts Center in October or November for the awards presentation very soon. Ridgway moved that we move $500 of the $1,800.00 surplus from the grants budget to the Phoenix Awards budget; Hatchett seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

New Business:

Ÿ               Kowalchuk is attending the Americans for the Arts Conference in Austin TX in June; she needs information about arts groups in Lawrence to take with her. Wiechert will see what is available when she attends the next Lawrence Roundtable.

Ÿ               The Conflict of Interest documents were put on hold until the June meeting.

Ÿ               A correction to the printed agenda calendar was noted. The June 11 Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit Walking Tour starts at 5:30 PM not 6:30 PM.

Adjournment:  Ridgway moved for adjournment at 7:25 PM; Geer Kellas seconded. The vote was unanimous.
